Google has warned iPhone users against being hacked "silently and quietly" by fraudulent websites.
The technology giant says that just visiting a hacked website was enough to allow hackers to hack the phone silently, giving them access to pictures and private messages.
The team´s "Zero" project, "Google", that the pirates have previously been able to access images and location information. Internet experts also warned that the hacking campaign had affected most iPhone models and lasted two years.
This bug, now fixed, will be a concern for iPhone owners, especially as the devices are known for their privacy and security features.
Ian Bear, who works for the Zero team, said that we estimate that these sites receive thousands of visitors a week, adding that only a "small group of hacked websites" was discovered.
If at least 2,000 visitors are affected over two years, it could mean that more than 200,000 users have been compromised.
Google did not disclose whether anyone who visited the sites was hacked, but many iPhone users would be vulnerable to cyberattacks.
Once the phone is hacked, hackers can access a huge amount of data. This includes contacts, photos, and even location data. Google says the information is sent back to a mysterious server every 60 seconds.
Hackers can also extract information from apps, including Instagram, Whatsapp, and even Google apps like Gmail.
The search giant said that Apple learned of the problem on February 1, 2019, and then corrected the bug after 6 days, which led to the protection of users from piracy.
As always, it´s important to keep iPhone up-to-date with the latest driver version, to protect it from hacking.
