Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it was "impossible" to waive his demand for the United States of America to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
"I will not compromise our expectations that the United States of America would recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan," Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office.
In response to a question from a journalist, Netanyahu said when he left Israel today for Lithuania, "is it possible to give up this? "Impossible."
"The administration of President Donald Trump does not discuss the possibility of the United States recognizing Israel´s sovereignty over the Golan Heights," US National Security advisor John Bolton told Reuters news agency on Wednesday.
In the past months, Netanyahu had said that he was asking the United States of America to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan.
Israel occupied the Syrian Golan Heights in the 1967 war, during which it also occupied the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
In 1981, Israel decided to annex the Golan Heights, which Syria rejected, insisting that this vital area should be restored.
Under United Nations resolutions, the Golan Heights are an occupied area.
