Chris Byrd announced his plans to step down as CEO of Mozilla at the end of 2019.Bird joined the web software company in 2004 and has been an employee ever since, with the exception of one year. 2013 when he became a company consultant.
According to techcrunch, Baird was appointed interim CEO of Mozilla in April 2014, where the company has seen a big boom in recent years, after relinquishing a large portion of its browser market share to the likes of Google and Apple.
"Our products, technology and policy efforts are stronger and more resonating in the market than ever before, and we have built new regulatory capabilities and significant financial strength to support our work," Byrd said in a leaflet. "From our new strategy of privacy forward to initiatives like the state of the Internet, we "We are ready to seize the tremendous opportunity and challenges ahead to ensure that we do more to control the lives of people who are connected and to shape the future of the Internet."
Mozilla is currently seeking to replace Byrd, although he has agreed to continue until the end of the year, and CEO Mitchell Baker has announced that she has agreed to intervene in a temporary role if necessary.
