More than 19,000 settlement units and 60,000 settlers under Netanyahu

A 1934 settlement unit built in West Bank and Jerusalem settlements during Benjamin Netanyahu´s tenure as prime minister, according to a report published by the Israeli Peace Now movement on Monday.

According to the report, these units were built in settlements and exposures during the ten years of Netanyahu´s rule, noting that about 13608 units (70%) were built in isolated settlements that Israel is likely to be forced to vacate in any future political agreement.

And shown that the isolated settlements have been in the presence of 60 thousand settlers under the construction of more units. She noted that 11% of the construction (2206 settlement units) are illegal according to the laws applied by Israel in the settlements (regardless of the illegality of the settlements themselves under international law).

According to official data, the average annual construction under Netanyahu was 1850 settlement units, noting that with the neutralization of the period of the alleged freeze, the average up to 1973 units.

Compared to the average construction of 1,829 housing units between 2001 and 2008, the claims that Netanyahu had "set" the building aside from 10 months to freeze were incorrect.

Data show that between 2008 and the end of 2017, 132,300 settlers were settled in settlements, with the number rising to 413,000 by the end of 2017.

The report noted that 10.272 billion shekels were invested in Israeli settlements. Pointing out that these funds were surplus budgets, and added to the regular budget that is invested annually in those settlements, and does not include those funds to pay for security expenses.

"A particularly disturbing trend has taken place since the election of Trump, where construction has focused on external settlement blocs that Israel should evacuate in any future agreement, but the goal is to change the reality on the ground.

"A decade ago, Netanyahu funds more than 5 percent of the public at the expense of the rest of Israel´s citizens living in the Negev, the Galilee and the social periphery of the State of Israel."

He said that Netanyahu´s talk about his desire to annex settlements in the West shows that Netanyahu is looking for any way to escape from prison and to stop legal proceedings against him. Calling on the Israelis to understand that he is looking for his personal future at the expense of most of the public, and also at the expense of a real threat to Israel´s future as a Jewish and democratic state.
