Dmitry Medvedev plans to remain head of Russia´s ruling United Party after he resigned from the premiership last week.
Medvedev, 54, an ally of President Vladimir Putin, said in an interview with the state channel "Channel One" today, Sunday, that "I will remain president of the party."
Medvedev announced his resignation from the post of Prime Minister last Wednesday, following Putin´s speech to the nation, in which the President announced a plan to allow the Prime Minister to have more powers through a referendum on the constitution. Then Putin suggested Mikhail Michaustin, head of the Federal Tax Service, to succeed Medvedev.
On Thursday, Putin signed a decree appointing Michelin, and resigned Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev appointed a vice-president of the Security Council, a newly created position.
