Journalist Alaa Al-Rimawi was transferred to Hebron Governmental Hospital this evening, Monday, after his health deteriorated during his detention in Hebron.
Al-Rimawi´s family confirmed that Alaa was transferred to intensive care in the hospital´s emergency department, as a result of his deteriorating health condition due to his hunger and water strike since his arrest on Sunday noon.
Later, journalists present at the hospital reported that al-Rimawi was transferred from the emergency department to the internal ward, where the police closed the department and prevented any visitors from entering the ward.
Doctors said that al-Rimawi refuses to take the necessary solution to correct his deteriorating health, so as not to break his strike.
Al-Khalil Hospital witnesses the presence of a very large number of Special Police personnel, as a number of them are stationed in front of the emergency department.
Al-Rimawi was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed against him by the Ministry of Endowments, alleging that he preached without an official mandate in a mosque in Hebron Governorate on the day of Nizar Banat’s funeral, although eyewitnesses confirmed that Al-Rimawi delivered a speech after the prayer and not the Friday sermon.
After he was summoned yesterday to the Public Prosecution Office in Ramallah, the latter decided to transfer Al-Rimawi arrested to the Hebron Prosecution, claiming that the complaint was submitted in Hebron, and there his detention was extended for 48 hours.
The “Lawyers for Justice” group stated that its lawyer met Al-Rimawi today, and confirmed that he would continue his hunger and water strike until his release.
