China´s telecom giant Huawei has said it is ready to face Washington´s pressure, with its dependence on US companies reduced, its founder said in a statement to the Japanese press on Saturday.
In the middle of trade tensions with Beijing, the US Department of Commerce listed Huawei on Wednesday as a list of enterprises that American groups can only provide with equipment after government approval.
"We are ready for that," Reen Chengfai told the Japanese press at the Huawei headquarters in Shenzhen. It is his first official comment since the US decision.
Rehn said his group would continue to develop its own components to reduce its dependency on the foreign supplier group.
Huawei, the world leader in fifth-generation technology, continues to rely on foreign supplier technologies. It buys components worth about $ 67 billion a year, including 11 billion US suppliers, the Nikkei daily reported.
The 74-year-old, known for his conservatism, has been forced out of the shadows in recent months to face mounting pressure on his company.
Some countries suspect they have potential links with Chinese intelligence services. Huawei is also on a campaign from Washington to persuade its allies to abandon its equipment.
"We have not done anything that violates the law," Zhengwei said, expecting Huawei´s growth to slow only slightly.
US President Donald Trump blocked US telecommunications networks on Wednesday from providing equipment to foreign companies deemed dangerous, a measure targeting Huawei.
Chengvai stressed that his company would not be under pressure from Washington.
"We will not change direction at the request of the United States and we will not accept surveillance as ZTI did," he told Nikai, referring to another Chinese communications giant hit by US sanctions last year.
