Gaza Works: Reconstruction may start after 3 months

Naji Sarhan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in the Gaza Strip, expects today, Sunday, the start of reconstruction within the next three months, after counting the damages that amounted to 1,200 completely destroyed housing units, and 100 units damaged in a severe and uninjured manner. Habitable, and 40 thousand moderately partially damaged units.

In an interview with the local Al-Aqsa radio station in Gaza, Sarhan suggested that Egypt would enter the reconstruction line very soon.

He estimated that the cost of the reconstruction of housing units during the recent aggression may reach about 165 million dollars, pointing to a deficit of 150 million dollars from previous wars.

He pointed out that the ministry is currently providing relief in cooperation with institutions operating in the Gaza Strip, noting that the Qatari committee provided $2,000 to about 500 families whose homes were completely destroyed.

And the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works in Gaza indicated that the citizens´ relief needs $18 million, noting that contracts amounting to $7 million are available, and there is a deficit of about $11 million.

Sarhan said that the cost of damages to the various sectors (infrastructure, economy, etc...) is more than $500 million, and there is a deficit of $600 million from previous wars.
