Today, Thursday, the Supreme National Authority for Return and Breaking Siege has decided to suspend its organization until the end of March 30.
The authority said that it decided to organize the border marches on a monthly basis during the year 2020 starting from March 30 next, after it was organized weekly.
Yousri Darwish, a member of the commission, said during a press conference held in Gaza City: "After a round of weeks of discussion, the commission decided to adopt the marches program through organizing them monthly, and whenever we needed the mass presence, and on national occasions."
Darwish indicated that the activities of the marches will be suspended from Friday (January 3) and until March 30 next, while it will be organized on Friday (December 27).
He said about it: "This time period will be invested to form a state of high preparedness, mobilization and preparation for the historic day, the Earth Day remembrance."
He explained that this decision came according to "the authority´s estimates, which are based on the interests of the Palestinian people and taking into account their circumstances."
He continued, saying: "During the 36 weeks of the struggle of struggle, the return marches achieved a number of goals, most notably the revival of the right of return in the hearts of the masses, breaking the systematic occupation (...) and creating the political environment to thwart the liquidation of the cause."
Since March 2018, Palestinians have participated in these marches to demand the lifting of the blockade of the Strip and the return of refugees to their cities and villages.
The Israeli army violently represses those peaceful marches, killing dozens of Palestinians and wounding thousands of others.
