Gaza: Large contact size and laboratory swabs are insufficient

Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, said today, Monday, that the volume of contact with people infected with Coronavirus is large, and the volume of infections may increase more than it is now.

In televised statements, Al-Qidrah indicated that the laboratory swabs at the ministry are limited and depleted, and the central laboratory must be strengthened with additional larger quantities as soon as possible.

He said, "We are investing what we have in curbing the crisis and what is available must be supported quickly," noting that medical teams are still conducting epidemiological investigations to identify the source of injuries and follow a map of contacts.

He added, "The medical staff are working very hard and responsibly to contain the new phase and break the episodes of the epidemic in the Gaza Strip."

He stressed that the current stage requires not to be complacent or reckless for a single moment in following safety and preventive measures.

He called on citizens not to leave homes except for an emergency order only, and to commit to wearing masks, cleansing hands, and achieving physical distancing for the sake of their safety and the safety of society.
