The Director of the Preventive Medicine Department at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Majdi Duhair, said today, Tuesday, that the epidemiological situation inside the Strip is not reassuring, especially in light of the warnings of the possibility of the arrival of the third wave of the epidemic in the coming weeks.
In an interview with Al-Aqsa local radio in Gaza, Duhair pointed out that the epidemiological curve is currently stable, but it is threatened to rise in the coming weeks for three reasons, the first of which is the citizens´ lack of commitment to safety measures and dealing with reality as if the epidemic has disappeared, and secondly, the presence of new strains that are rapidly spreading in the occupied territories of Palestine in the year 48 and the West Bank. and neighboring countries, and thirdly, the low rate of vaccination.
And he indicated that all the three reasons mentioned are factors that make Gaza vulnerable to a third wave in the coming weeks, and this inevitably leads to a return to the strict measures on the ground related to the closure.
He added, "The vaccine is the real resort to getting out of the Corona pandemic, and obtaining high rates from the vaccinated, leading to community immunity."
The Director of the Preventive Medicine Department at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip indicated that sufficient quantities of vaccines of various types are available in the stores of the Ministry of Health, calling on citizens to receive the vaccine, in order to obtain the largest possible number of vaccinated people.
Duhair stressed the need to adhere to safety, social distancing and hygiene measures, as long as there are cases that are still vulnerable to the epidemic inside the Gaza Strip.
