Gaza Health receives a shipment of medical devices to tackle the Corona virus

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced today, Thursday, that it had received a shipment of donations from medical devices provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross, as part of the preparations and precautionary measures to confront the Corona virus.

Abdel-Latif Al-Haj, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry, valued the contributions made by the Red Cross to support the Gaza Strip, part of its needs to combat the Corona virus.

Al-Hajj said in a press statement distributed by the ministry, "Today we receive a shipment of devices and equipment for intensive care rooms that are part of the needs that the Gaza Strip needs, and in light of the severe shortage facing health facilities we call on the world to provide more support in the same context."

Ignacio Karsars, director of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza, confirmed that the donations included a respirator, patient monitors, pacemakers, suction devices and pumps, which are major equipment for treating critical cases of Covid patients 19.

He pointed out that before the pandemic, Gaza was facing continuous serious problems affecting the quality of health care available to its residents, as the health sector in Gaza contains about 110 intensive care families for adults, most of them are already occupied, and there are only 93 artificial respirators in the intensive care units versus 2 million people.

Kasars called for more efforts to prepare the Gaza Strip to deal with the wider spread of Covid 19.

And international warnings were issued by a number of international organizations, warning them of the fragile health situation in the Gaza Strip in light of the risks of the spread of the Corona virus.

The Ministry of Health has demanded an immediate lifting of the blockade of the Gaza Strip, and the immediate introduction of medical equipment, calling on United Nations and human rights organizations to intensify pressure on the occupation to end its siege that has lasted for more than 14 years.
