European Union: We do not recognize any Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank and any annexation constitutes a serious violation of international law

The European Union´s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josip Borel, stressed that the European Union does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

Borrell said in a press statement issued today, Thursday, that the position of the European Union on the status of the territories occupied by Israel in 1967 has not changed, in line with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, including resolutions 242 (1967) and 338 (1973).

He stressed that any annexation constitutes a serious violation of international law, and the European Union will continue to closely monitor the situation and its wider implications, and will act accordingly.

He said that the European Union is ready to cooperate closely with the new Israeli government to combat the coronavirus, and technical cooperation is continuing, and will be strengthened in all aspects of the epidemic, the health of our citizens and addressing the economic consequences of coronavirus is our shared highest priority.
