Gaza: An international committee meets within days to implement development projects

The Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for the Coordination of International Assistance to the Palestinians will meet in the coming days in New York, USA, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss the implementation of development projects in the Gaza Strip.

The committee, which was formed after the Oslo Accords in 1993, is headed by Norway. Representatives from the Palestinian Authority, Israel and various countries are present. When projects are approved, the task is to raise funds for their implementation.

The meeting, which will be held twice a year, will discuss the construction of the largest water desalination plant in Gaza, which will cost about 650 million dollars, and will be funded by the World Bank and the contribution of Kuwait and the implementation of a private German company.

She pointed out that the station will be built off the coast of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, in addition to the development of its own devices east of the same area but within the Israeli border. She pointed out that large pipes will be put up inside the sea to separate and desalinate water.

The committee will also discuss the establishment of an industrial zone in Karni, a former "Karni crossing" east of Gaza City, at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars with Qatari support, which will be under Israeli security control. It will contain 50 factories and will employ 5,000 Palestinians.

She pointed out that the Committee will also discuss the power line 161, which will significantly improve during the next three years of electricity in the Gaza Strip, and Qatar will support its construction at a cost of $ 40 million per year. She pointed out that there are discussions currently between Qatar and Israel on the infrastructure for the extension of the line, whether in Gaza or Israel itself.

She pointed out that the field hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, which will be completed soon, will also be discussed by the committee.
