"The National Assembly of the Families of the Martyrs of Palestine" (non-governmental) said today, Wednesday, that 149 Palestinians were killed as a result of being targeted by the Israeli occupation army, in the occupied Palestinian territories, in 2019.
According to a press release, the gathering’s Secretary-General, Mohamed Sobehat, said that the number of child martyrs out of the total number of martyrs was 33, or about 23%, and an increase of 5% compared to last year. He explained that the number of martyrs during the year 2019 was close to the overall average number of martyrs during the past five years, which during the mentioned period reached 161 martyrs each year. He pointed out that among the martyrs 112 martyrs from the governorates of Gaza, and they constitute 74 per cent of the total number, including 69 as a result of the bombing of Israeli warplanes. He added, while the number of martyrs in the occupied West Bank reached 37 martyrs, making up 26% of the total number. He explained that the youngest martyr, the martyr (fetus) Abdullah Abu Arar, who was martyred on the fifth of May last, in the Zaytoun neighborhood / Gaza, and the martyr (fetus) Ayman Mahmoud al-Madhoun who was martyred on May 5 last, in Beit Lahia North of Gaza, the oldest martyr, the martyr Abd al-Rahim Mustafa al-Madhoun, 61, from Beit Lahiya, killed 5 May 2019. He pointed out that the average age of the martyrs is 25 years and eight months, pointing out that the bloodiest month was October 2019, when the number of martyrs reached 44 martyrs. And that the most targeted age group targeted by the occupation was Omar (22 years), and they numbered 10 martyrs, while the number of married martyrs and martyrs reached 57, of whom 49 were males and 8 were females. He noted that the number of dead bodies of martyrs detained by the Israeli occupation during this year amounted to 15, bringing the total number of martyrs bodies held in the refrigerators of the occupation prisons and number cemeteries to 306
