Australia allows lockdowns to be eased in Sydney over Christmas

The authorities in the Australian city of Sydney announced today, Wednesday, that residents subject to closure in a hotspot of coronavirus infections in the city will be allowed to gather in small numbers for the Christmas celebrations.

Those residing in the most affected part will be allowed to receive only five visitors in addition to an unspecified number of children under the age of 12 years during the period from Thursday to Saturday.

In Northern Beaches, residents will be allowed to receive 10 visitors, but they cannot leave the area.

The decision came after discovering only 8 new cases at night, bringing the total number of cases to 97 since last Thursday.

On December 27, 250,000 residents of Norzen Beaches returned to complete lockdown.
