An international organization for the protection of animals began on Sunday the transfer of about 40 animals and birds from a park in the Gaza Strip to a land reserve in Jordan.

The animals and birds are transported under the supervision of specialists from the international organization "Four Bows" from the only Rafah park in the far south of the Gaza Strip because of the deteriorating economic conditions in the sector and the insufficiency of the owner of the park to take care of them.

The Ministry of Agriculture in Gaza said in a statement on its Facebook page that it agreed to transfer animals and birds after the international organization pledged to establish a nature reserve in the Gaza Strip in the near future, including a number of wild animals and the return of animals from the Gaza Strip.

The ministry said animals and birds would be transferred to a "high reserve" in Jordan and would be accompanied by a government delegate from Gaza to ascertain conditions for animal welfare. This is the third time that animals from gardens in Gaza have been moved out of Gaza because their owners are unable to take care of them.

In January, a severe cold wave in the Gaza Strip and lack of medical care led to the deaths of four newly born lion cubs in a zoo in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.
