Amazon builds "private airport"

The first phase of the construction of the new Amazon airport near the US city of Cincinnati began Tuesday with a "surprise" visit by Jeff Bezos at the opening ceremony.

US billionaire Bezos announced the launch of the new $ 1.5 billion Amazon Airport project near Cincinnati, Ohio, in the eastern United States.

According to the Business Insider website, Bezos surprised the employees of the company when he attended the opening of the huge project, before setting up the first earth block at the base of the project, and addressing the staff.

Amazon has signed a contract to lease an area of 3.6 million square meters for 50 years, part of Cincinnati International Airport.

The new airport is aimed at controlling cargo operations around the world and reducing dependence on carriers such as FedEx and UPS.

"This new center will allow us to deliver goods to customers faster, and this is phenomenal," said Bezos. "We will shift the Amazon fast service from two days to one day only for delivery, and this airport will be a big part of this plan."

The new airport is expected to open in 2021 and is expected to provide 2,000 new jobs.
