Acting UNRWA: Israel seeks to replace our services to Palestinians with services provided by its organizations

"Israel is seeking to replace the services we provide to the Palestinians with the authorization of the UN General Assembly in occupied East Jerusalem with the services provided by its organizations," said Christian Saunders, acting director of unrwa.

In an interview with Reuters in his Office in Gaza, Saunders accused America and Israel of working against it, stressing that America is rallying support from foreign parliaments to stop donations.

"We are in contact with the United States, and we will continue to deal with it in the hope that unrwa will see it as a credible and well-deserved partner," Saunders said, according to the official news agency.

"What should be remembered here is that UNRWA has the mandate of the UN General Assembly to provide services to Palestinian refugees in East Jerusalem," he said.

Saunders added that he feels "pressure in East Jerusalem in particular," as Israel builds schools and institutions to compete with the agency and prevent it from doing its job there.
