The Government of Japan has provided a new package of financial assistance amounting to US $ 3,345,535 of the supplementary budget for 2018 for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to assist the Palestinian people.

The first project, entitled "Reconstruction and Strengthening of the Renewable Energy Supply System in Gaza ," valued at US $ 1,797,321, over a period of 12 months, aims at strengthening the functions of the European Gaza Hospital with the aim of improving living conditions and providing basic services for 100,000 Palestinian patients in Gaza. The project is a continuation of the joint effort between UNOPS and the Government of Japan to finalize the $ 1.5 million "Rebuilding and Strengthening Electricity Supply System for Family Homes in Gaza", which successfully installed solar power systems designed to secure access to a safe and sustainable source of electricity for 188 families (about 1,160 people) in eight different municipalities in the Gaza Strip.
The second project, entitled "Construction of a wastewater treatment plant in the industrial agricultural city of Jericho", with a total value of 1,548,214 US dollars, which will also extend over a period of 12 months, aims to reduce the environmental burden of the wastewater generated by the leased areas in the industrial city of Jericho, through the reconstruction of the supply system through the central treatment of wastewater, which will achieve the environmental standards required to enable the final connection to the sewage treatment plant in the city of Jericho. It is noteworthy that the total Japanese assistance to the people of Palestine since 1993 is adjusted to about 1.9 billion US dollars, in addition to the latter assistance.
