During the monthly report on the state of press freedoms in March 2021, the Committee to Support Journalists monitored about 42 violations of media freedoms and journalists, including 36 Israeli violations, and 3 violations by Palestinian security services.
The report also documented 3 cases of violations by social media, in the context of fighting Palestinian content.
The Israeli attacks over the past month were represented in the injury and assault of the occupation forces on 5 journalists, namely Fayez Abu Rumaila, Mustafa Al-Kharouf and a Turkish journalist working for the Anatolian Agency Turgit Alp and Youssef Shehadeh, and many journalists suffocated.
On the side of the arrests, the Israeli occupation forces arrested 3 journalists, they are the photographer Khaled Zebdeh, Bakr Abdel Haq, and Mona Al-Qawasmi. From journalists to be investigated.
In addition, the occupation military courts issued rulings, renewed the administrative detention decision, and postponed the arrest trial of (3) journalists, namely: the renewal of administrative detention for the second time against the journalist Bushra Al-Tawil, and a verdict of ten months imprisonment for the journalist Tamer Al-Barouti, and the trial of journalist Tariq was postponed. The report recorded (9) cases of preventing journalists from covering the occupation´s violations of the right of citizens in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the ban on beating, kicking, throwing stones, firing bullets and attacking the occupation and its journalists´ settlers with fierce dogs.
The report also recorded (2) a case of insults and threats, and (3) a case of smashing and confiscation of equipment and their mobile phone memory in order to prevent the publication of the crimes committed against the Palestinian people, as well as (1) a case of forcing a fine to be paid to the captive journalist Tamer Al-Barghouti.
Social media sites and platforms impose unfair restrictions on Palestinian content, under clear pressure from the Israeli occupation in the context of fighting the Palestinian narrative, as the Report of the Journalists Support Committee recorded during the month´s report more than (3) cases of preventing journalists from publishing, closing an account, and placing restrictions on publishing under the pretext of violating instructions. .
