Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh discussed with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, in his office in Ramallah, today, Tuesday, political developments and bilateral relations, in the presence of Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki, and Japan’s representative to Palestine, Ambassador Masayuki Maguchi. .
The Prime Minister said: “Our Palestinian people are living in exceptional circumstances as a result of Israel’s continued practice of all kinds of terrorism against it, and its systematic destruction of the two-state solution, through the continuation of the siege of Gaza and the Judaization of Jerusalem, the expansion of settlements and its control over the crossings, land and water and all the details of Palestinian lives.”
The Prime Minister said, “Israel continues to occupy and destroy the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state that drags us into a state of apartheid, as described by the recent Human Rights Watch report as an “apartheid” state in its dealings with our people.”
In this context, Shtayyeh congratulated Japan on the great success achieved by the Tokyo Olympics, in light of the health conditions that imposed themselves on the whole world.
The Prime Minister praised Japan´s continued support for Palestine at the political and material levels, noting that the Japanese aid translates itself on the ground, represented in supporting the health, education and water sectors, and the Jericho Agricultural Industrial City project, which is one of the most important projects in Palestine.
Shtayyeh thanked Japan´s leadership, government and people for their historical support, which contributes to building the institutions of the Palestinian state on the path to liberation from occupation, wishing that cooperation would extend and relations develop to the level of peoples, academic cooperation, businessmen and joint investments.
Shtayyeh and Motegi discussed enhancing joint cooperation and Japan´s support for Palestine in several areas, the most important of which is the presence of direct agencies for Japanese companies in Palestine, in addition to supporting youth programs implemented by the government such as the youth programming program, the project to provide electricity to refugee camps through solar energy, and support the Palestinian budget. For his part, the Japanese Foreign Minister expressed his happiness to visit Palestine in his new position, after he visited it several times before in other positions, stressing his country´s position in support of the two-state solution, and its continued support for Palestine in several files, including confronting the "Corona" virus.
