The Authority for Prisoners and Ex-detainees Affairs in the Gaza Strip monitored the arrest of 76 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation authorities during the year 2020, including an old woman.
According to the commission, most of the arrests took place in last September, during which 15 arrests were recorded.
Hassan Quneita, head of the authority’s management committee in Gaza, said that the occupation authorities subjected a number of those who moved through the Beit Hanoun / Erez checkpoint to long wait and sometimes to detention for hours or to be interrogated, pressured and tried to blackmail them.
In turn, Abdel Nasser Farwana, head of the Studies and Documentation Unit and a member of the Authority’s Management Committee in Gaza, said that 10 citizens, who were arrested during the year 2020, were arrested at the Beit Hanoun / Erez checkpoint, north of the Gaza Strip, while traveling or transporting to and from the Strip. Among them are 5 merchants, patients, and a businessman, in addition to another citizen who was arrested via the Karama crossing while returning from a medical trip in Jordan.
Farwana indicated that the Israeli arrests from the Gaza Strip during the past year 2020 also included (56) citizens who were arrested after crossing the eastern and northern borders of the Gaza Strip and infiltrating into the occupied Palestinian territories in 1948. In addition to (9) other citizens working in the fishing profession, and these They were arrested at sea.
The Prisoners and Executives Affairs Authority in the southern governorates stated that about (250) prisoners from the Gaza Strip are in the Israeli occupation prisons, including (27) prisoners serving life sentences, and Diaa Al-Agha, who has been detained since October 1992, is the oldest and the dean of the Gaza Strip prisoners.
