Wencesland: The escalation in the West Bank is fueling a climate of fear, hatred and anger

The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wencesland, said today, Saturday, that "the escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank is fueling a climate of fear, hatred and anger."

"It is necessary to reduce tensions to immediately open the way for determining initiatives aimed at building a viable political horizon," he added in a statement.

4 martyrs have risen in the West Bank during the last 24 hours. This morning, Ahmed Daraghmeh (17 years), from Tubas, and Mahmoud Al-Sous (18 years), from Jenin, were shot dead by the Israeli occupation forces during their storming into the city of Jenin and its camp, and the child, Adel Daoud ( 14 years old, succumbed to a live bullet wound to the head, near the annexation and apartheid wall, south of Qalqilya, and Mahdi Laddawa (17 years), during a clash that erupted in the village of Al Mazraa Al Gharbia, northwest of Ramallah.

"Since the beginning of the year, at least 100 Palestinians, including children, have been killed, amid a significant increase in Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank, including Area A," Wencesland said.

According to the data of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 164 martyrs have risen since the beginning of this year, including 113 martyrs in the northern governorates (West Bank) and 51 martyrs in the southern governorates (Gaza Strip).

The UN coordinator expressed his "dismay at the deteriorating security situation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem," noting that "the fragility of the situation underscores the urgent need to change the dynamics on the ground, while addressing the underlying security and political issues that fuel the current instability,” urging “Restore calm and avoid further escalation.”
