Washington cancels Palestinian ambassador´s residence and closes PLO bank accounts

Washington _ Palestine News Network

The US authorities, on Sunday, established the residence of the Palestinian ambassador and his family members, and closed the bank accounts of the PLO.

A member of the PLO executive committee, Hanan Ashrawi, told the official Palestinian news agency that the US authorities had informed Ambassador Hossam Zamet that his visa, which had been in force until 2020, had been cancelled and that he had asked him to leave America immediately, and that his son, Saeed (7), and Alma (5 years) had left Their schools in Washington and leave the country, according to Ashtiali.

She pointed out that the United States authorities had also informed mission staff in Washington of the procedures resulting from the closure of the organization´s office, including their demand to stop working, close their bank accounts and not renew the lease contract.

Ashrawi condemned the American decision, saying, "This retaliatory behaviour by the U.S. administration, and demonstrates the hatred it has reached on Palestine, leadership and people, to reach innocent women and children."

"Its actions, its unilateral and unlawful decisions to punish the Palestinians and to break their will are now resorting to a new level of sanctions by targeting the family of Ambassador Zamet in an inhumane and deliberate manner, which has constituted a dangerous precedent in Palestinian-American international relations and a violation Express to diplomatic usages, as described.

The Hebrew Daily, Israel, on Sunday unveiled the release of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, instructing him to stop attacking US President Donald Trump and the US administration and to curb statements against Washington.

The Hebrew newspaper claimed that Abbas issued the instructions for fear of imposing more US sanctions on the Palestinian Authority.

The United States Administration has halted funding for Palestinian infrastructure projects and assistance to Palestine hospitals in occupied Jerusalem, as well as the suspension of funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The Palestinians described the decisions as part of the blackmail to accept the US peace plan, which has not yet been officially announced, although US President Donald Treb has been pre-empted by the announcement that it is dropping the issue of Jerusalem after a blind end to settlement in the Palestinian territories.

Palestinian-US relations have been strained since US President Donald Trump announced early December 2017 the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation and the transfer of the US Embassy.

A few days ago, the US administration announced the closure of an office representing the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Washington.
