A US soldier was killed in the country, a spokesman for the international forces in Afghanistan said on Saturday.
The statement avoided disclosing the exact location of the accident, saying that "according to the US Department of Defense policy, the name of any American soldier killed is not disclosed until 24 hours after he was informed of his closest confidant.
Attacks on international forces by elements of the Afghan forces have increased in recent weeks.
An American soldier was killed and another east of Afghanistan was injured early this month, apparently in apparent attack from within.
Last month, the Taliban launched an attack on the governor´s compound in the southern city of Kandahar during a meeting attended by General Scott Miller, the commander of the US and NATO forces, but was unhurt.
