US Congressman: Netanyahu´s character resembles Trump

New York State Democratic Representative Alexia Cortez criticized the reelection of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "part of the rise of authoritarianism around the world."

"I think Netanyahu is a Tramp-like figure," said the newly elected deputy, a political whirlwind within the Democratic Party in an interview last Sunday.

Democratic MP (Minnesota) Elhan Omar and Democratic Rep. Rachida Tlaib (Michigan) for their opposition to the policies of the Israeli occupation, said US policy towards Israel should be affected if Netanyahu annexes the West Bank Western or parts of them, asserting that there are "talks going on in our gathering," in reference to a group of progressive Democrats.

"I think this issue is definitely on the table," said Ocacio Cortez. "I also acknowledge my role in this," she said, noting that other members of Congress were holding discussions on foreign policy in the Middle East long before her election. "I hope to play a facilitating and supportive role in this dialogue," she said, noting that the Minnesota senator , Betty McCullum took the initiative two years ago to stop aid to Israel because of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian children.

Rep. Betty McCollum presented a bill to promote human rights in 2017 by ending Israeli military detention of Palestinian children. He also endorsed the draft resolution on Palestinian rights and called for confirmation that US taxpayers´ money would not go into Israeli military detention of Palestinian children.

Some of Israel´s most vocal supporters in the United States are concerned about Netanyahu´s promise to annex the West Bank, prompting a number of them to warn Netanyahu on Friday not to do so. Four of Israel´s strongest supporters in Congress have sent a letter - Nita Lowe of New York State, Attorney Ted Deutch of Florida and Attorney Brad Schneider of Illinois.

Jewish-American associations and personalities have issued similar warnings to Netanyahu on the same issue, representing the majority views among American Jews, including five organizations representing "reformist and conservative movements." As well as the American constitutional law expert who has long provided political advice to Netanyahu, Alan Dershowitz.

The Jewish Telegraph newspaper said the warnings were clear and unequivocal: "The annexation of the West Bank will jeopardize US support for Israel." "It appears that this appeal is unprecedented, as these Jewish groups have asked the US president to rein in an Israeli prime minister," the report said in a commentary on a letter sent by US Jewish groups to US President Donald Trump.

"President Trump´s letter from nine Jewish groups warned that annexing parts of the West Bank would lead to greater conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, severely undermine the successful security coordination between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and stimulate efforts such as boycotting and withdrawing," the Jewish Telegraph agency said. Investments and sanctions (PDS) aimed at isolating and delegitimizing Israel "and deepening the differences between American Jews.

Trump congratulated Netanyahu on "a great and difficult victory", writing on Twitter that "the United States stands with him and with the people of Israel along the way." He said Netanyahu´s victory was a "better chance" for peace in the Middle East.

Many Democratic Party rules argue that US policy, especially under Trump´s presidency, fully supports the Israeli "occupation", which is of concern to members of Congress, such as Alexandria´s Ocacio Corniz.
