The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, " UNRWA ", said today, Wednesday, that "Israel refuses to enter humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom crossing."
UNRWA called on the government of Israel to urgently enable humanitarian supplies and its employees to reach Gaza in a timely manner, in accordance with its obligations under international law.
The agency has not obtained approval for critical access to Gaza for essential humanitarian supplies intended to provide relief to the distressed population, which includes people at particular risk such as pregnant women, children, persons with disabilities, serious medical conditions and the elderly, despite massive needs nine days after the Conflict. Likewise, approval for its senior official to assess and support UNRWA´s emergency operations has not been received.
"UNRWA is urgently awaiting approval through the mechanisms in place to cross into Gaza," said Tamara Al-Rifai, Director of Strategic Communications at UNRWA.
