The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Saturday that the agency is facing great difficulties in providing salaries for its staff this month due to its financial crisis.
UNRWA media adviser Adnan Abu Hasna told reporters in Gaza that the agency is facing a $ 89 million shortfall for its budget for this year.
"We have a problem in providing salaries this month and we are working hard to resolve this as soon as possible."
Abu Hasna stressed that any disruption in UNRWA operations "will have serious evidence at the political, social and security levels" regarding the issue of Palestinian refugees.
He highlighted that UNRWA is facing an unprecedented challenge to cover its budget for next year, which is estimated at $ 1.2 billion and how to cover the stop the United States from providing $ 360 million to the Agency since the beginning of 2019.
