The United Nations Children´s Fund (UNICEF) said Wednesday that 66, 000 Yemeni children die every year with preventable diseases.
This was made by the representative of UNICEF, Mirchil Ryano, as published through her official Twitter account.
"Every year in Yemen, 66, 000 children under the age of five die from preventable diseases," said Riano.
"Half of these children die during childbirth or in the first month of life, while others die from preventable diseases such as diarrhoea, pneumonia and malnutrition," she said.
"The children of Yemen continue to be killed in several governorates, stressing the need to end the war," she said.
About four years ago, Yemen witnessed a violent war between government forces loyal to President Abed Rabbo Mansorhadi, backed by an Arab alliance led by the Saudi neighbour, against the gunmen of Ansar Allah "al-Houthi", accused of overturning the legitimate authority and controlling several governorates, including The capital, Sana´a.
This war has led to a major outbreak of epidemics and diseases, made three quarters of the population in need of assistance, and has thrown more negative repercussions on children
