Two people were killed in a shooting in a street in the German city of Saxony-Anhalt, police said.

"Two people were shot dead in Halle according to preliminary information," police said on Twitter.

The entire neighborhood was cordoned off while the train station in Halle was closed.

The newspaper "Bild" that the shooting occurred in front of a synagogue, and a grenade was thrown at a Jewish cemetery near the synagogue.

Police did not confirm the information.
