The Turkish security forces managed to neutralize eight gunmen in the Silopi district of the province of Chernak, southeast of the country.
According to a statement issued by the Turkish Interior Ministry at dawn on Saturday, the gendarmerie monitored a security operation in Silopi, eight terrorists inside a cave, the official Anatolia news agency reported.
"The forces carried out an attack on the terrorists, and they were able to neutralize them and confiscate their weapons and ammunition," the statement said.
The security operations, which took place between October 31 and December 2, resulted in the neutralization of 18 terrorists, one of whom was arrested, the statement said.
The statement did not specify who the dead belonged to, but Turkish security forces are launching attacks against the Kurdistan Workers ´ Party (PKK) in the southeastern part of the country and in northern Iraq, in retaliation for the party´s attacks.
