Russia has criticized the United States ´ severe sanctions against Iran as destructive.

"We condemn this destructive act on the part of the United States, which will lead to the elimination of all international efforts to maintain the nuclear deal with Iran," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

In its statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it rejects unilateral sanctions, as their imposition is detrimental to Iran´s partners as well.

The Russian foreign Ministry said that if the United States wants to prevent Iran from nuclear armament, it should negotiate with Iran on the matter.

The second round of economic sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States, targeting the oil and banking sectors, will begin Monday.

The package comes from sanctions following the US withdrawal in May last May from the nuclear deal concluded in 2015 between Iran and the world powers, the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Russia, China and the European Union.

Washington began to reapply a first package of sanctions against Tehran in August last August.

In contrast to the American position, the rest of the signatory States of the nuclear deal are seeking to maintain it.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has declared that Iran has complied with the agreement and has not developed any nuclear weapons.
