US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the presidential envoy to the war against the Islamic state organization (Da´ash) has resigned, but has rejected the media uproar over the resignation.
"I do not know," said Trump on Twitter on social networking Twitter. "I was not appointed by Bret McGovern, who was appointed by President Obama in 2015. He was supposed to leave office in February, but quit before he left. False news makes it a big crisis! "
Trump also said that if another US commander ordered the withdrawal of US troops from Syria, "this person will be the most popular hero in America."
US media reports said McGuck would leave office earlier than expected because of the recent shift in Trump´s policy in Syria following a similar move by Secretary of Defense Jim Matisse.
