Top American publishers sue Amazon subsidiary

A number of major US publishers have filed a lawsuit against Amazon e-commerce giant Audibel for alleged copyright infringement as they seek to block a feature called Audible Captions that appears on screen. While listing the audiobook.

The case was brought by seven members of the American Publishers Association (AIP), including Haberb Collins Publishing, Penguin Random House, Hashiti Book Group, Simon & Westchester, and McMillan Publishing.

"Audibel basically wants to provide the text as well as the audio to the books without the permission of the copyright owners, although they only have the right to sell audiobooks," the American Publishers Association said in a statement.

The lawsuit was filed in the New York State Southern District Court.

According to the Reuters news agency, the company Audibel did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the news.
