The World Health Organization warns of the risk of disease outbreaks in the Gaza Strip

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned of the “extreme risk” of the spread of diseases among the “exhausted and vulnerable” population of the Gaza Strip.

He added in a post on his account on the “X” platform, “I have just met with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, to discuss the serious health and humanitarian situation in Gaza.”

Ghebreyesus stressed that "our teams will continue to work closely together to serve the people of Gaza to the best of our ability."

He continued, "The World Health Organization and UNRWA continue to call for the protection of health and civilians, and above all for a ceasefire."

The lack of water, sanitation, access to basic health care, fuel and other necessities poses a severe risk of diseases starting to spread among an already exhausted and vulnerable population, according to the same source.
