The Journalists Syndicate strongly condemned the attacks on female journalists while covering a march in downtown Ramallah on Saturday evening, targeting them with tear gas canisters, injuring some of them, chasing some and confiscating their mobile phones.
The Syndicate considered that the targeting of journalists by security forces is a new and dangerous development in the context of the attacks on freedom of opinion, expression and journalistic work, which were manifested in the most horrific form in the murder of activist Nizar Banat, and later extended to threaten some journalists and citizens against the background of expressing their positions on the issue of girls, and the detention of a journalist before Two days while covering the night events that took place in Ramallah.
The Syndicate affirmed that freedom of opinion and expression is guaranteed under the Palestinian Basic Law and the Declaration of Independence, and that freedom of journalistic work is guaranteed by local and international laws, and that every violation of it requires serious accountability for its perpetrators.
The Syndicate warned against continuing to restrict freedom of opinion, expression, assembly and demonstration, and its consequences for the rule of law and civil and societal peace.
