The singer Guy Marsden, famous for his version of the song "You Never Walk Alone", which became the anthem of Liverpool FC, died at the age of 78, it was announced on Sunday.
The news of the death, family friend, broadcaster Peter Price, announced on his social media account: "With a very sad heart, and after talking to the family, I must tell you that the legendary Jerry Marsden passed away after a short illness in his heart."
Marsden star and band the Bismakers shone in the 1960s with the merseybeat music that saw the Beatles rise to global fame.
His song "Never Walk Alone" has become one of the most popular soccer songs in the world and is still played at Anfield at the start of every home game.
Obituary messages poured into grief over the death of the singer from the famous club Cavern, who played for him often in the 1960s, as well as from Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotherham. Liverpool also mourned him in a statement saying that Jerry´s interpretation of "You Never Walk Alone" will remain inextricably linked to the club he loves.
