The representative of the European Union in Palestine, Seven Connorsdorf, announced today, Wednesday, that the European Union will not recognize any Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank.
This came during a meeting with the Deputy Secretary of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement, Sabri Saidam in Ramallah.
Burgessdorf said: The European Union "will not recognize any annexation process or any unilateral steps that would undermine the peace process and drag the region into the square of violence."
He also affirmed that the European Union countries stand with the Palestinian people and their rights to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders.
For his part, Sidam, the representative of the European Union, was briefed on the dangers of Israeli threats to annex occupied Palestinian lands, their impact on the peace process, and the implications of this locally, regionally and internationally.
Said said that the leadership, factions and the Palestinian people stand "one row in the face of the Israeli plans supported by the United States of America," considering that the annexation plans represent a "challenge to the international community and the decisions of international legitimacy, and will not pass and will not be accepted by any Palestinian whatever the price."
This comes as 11 European foreign ministers, European Union foreign minister Josep Borel called for the formation of a list of reactions against the Israeli annexation plan for areas in the West Bank, according to Israeli newspaper (Ha´aretz) reported on Tuesday.
The message sent by the foreign ministers of France, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Portugal and Malta, last Friday, stressed that doing so "is necessary because the window of opportunity for deterrence is closing quickly."
In the same context, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the PLO, Saeb Erekat, announced that "Palestine and the Arab group at the United Nations requested a few days ago to hold a session of the General Assembly on the annexation plan and the formation of an international front that rejected it."
Erekat said: "The Palestinian side is awaiting an appointment for the session to be held by the United Nations because of the strict measures for the outbreak of the new Corona virus."
He added that "the Palestinian leadership is seeking to build an international coalition to reject the Israeli annexation plan and to drop it out of international laws, international legitimacy, the United Nations charters and the fourth Geneva conventions."
