British newspaper "The Independent" revealed that the famous instant messaging application "WhatsApp" will stop working on millions of smart phones starting from February next.

According to the newspaper, WhatsApp will not work on phones that have old versions of "Android" and "iOS", because of a major and important update on it, at the end of January.

 

It is assumed that "WhatsApp" will stop working on these phones, starting in February, but Windows phones have now lost the ability to run the application.

"The update process was necessary to ensure the security of its users," WhatsApp said in a statement.

Here is the full list of phones that WhatsApp will no longer work on, as of February 2020:

Android phones

The upcoming update on WhatsApp will affect disinfection on any Android phones running earlier than 4.0.3, also known as "Ice Cream Sandwich", which was launched in 2011.

This means that smartphones running Android Gingerbread 2.3.7 and earlier will be affected by the update, although this will only affect phones that are more than 10 years old.

And owners of "Android" phones can know the version of the operating system they are using, by going to "Settings", then "General", then "Software Update".

IPhones

Any iPhone that operates on the iOS 8 operating system or its predecessors, WhatsApp will stop working on it, at the end of January.

But there are phones that are able to update to the operating system "iOS 9", in order to work "WhatsApp", which are "iPhone 6", "iPhone 6 Plus", "iPhone 5c", "iPhone 5s" and "iPhone" 5 "and" iPhone 4S ".

As for iPhone 4 and earlier versions, it is unable to update to iOS 9, and WhatsApp support will be lost.
