The representative of the European Union in Palestine, Sven Kon von Burgsdorff, confirmed that the European Union, the World Bank and international institutions are involved in assessing the damages in the Gaza Strip.
He added during a press conference held in front of the destroyed Al-Jalaa Tower in Al-Rimal neighborhood (west of Gaza), we will do our utmost to ensure urgent assistance in terms of food, drink, electricity and shelter, and we have announced a grant of about 34 million euros to support the Gaza Strip, this is the first step. Burgsdov stressed that the process of rebuilding the Gaza Strip requires the lifting of the Israeli siege and the free movement of people and goods to and from the Strip . He continued: "If we want to rebuild Gaza, we must make sure and ensure that the siege on the Strip must be lifted, people must move freely, goods must enter the Gaza Strip freely with the possibility of import and export, and investments must enter in order to revive the economy." Burgsdorff added, "There are hundreds of people who have lost their source of livelihood, and more than 250 citizens have lost their lives here in Gaza, including 66 children and 33 women, about 50% of those who were martyred are civilians." He added, "We are thinking about the mechanism and how to support reconstruction, support all economic and business sectors, and support UNRWA, and work is continuing on the desalination plant to provide potable water, and all of this is worth nothing as long as all the elements of the conflict are not addressed."
