The death toll from floods and landslides in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta and its surrounding areas, rose to 53 today (Saturday).
Heavy rain fell on Jakarta on Christmas Eve, flooded rivers of parts of Jakarta and surrounding areas, and caused landslides.
A spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency, Agus Weibobo, said that the number of dead included those who were drowned or electrocuted, and one person is missing in the Lipac Center in Banten Province.
However, the number of displaced people decreased to 173064 people today, Saturday, compared to 390,000 the day before, Agus said in a text message.
The head of the Emergency Operations Unit Bambang Syria Putra said that the floods had receded in many parts of the capital and its surrounding areas.
