Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee passed away at the age of 84 in New Delhi, his son said in a tweet on Twitter.
"With a sad heart, I tell you that my father, Pranab Mukherjee, has passed away in hospital despite the great efforts of the doctors, and the prayers from all over India. Thank you all," Abhijit Mukherjee said on Twitter.
Mukherjee is considered the 13th president of India, and he held office from 2012 to 2017, and has two sons and a daughter.
