The arrival of an American medical delegation specialized in pediatric heart surgery to the Gaza Strip

An American delegation specialized in pediatric heart surgery, affiliated with the Palestine Children´s Relief Society, arrived at the European Gaza Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, in order to perform complex open-heart surgeries for children with congenital heart problems, after the interruption of this type of operation in The Gaza Strip lasted three years due to the Corona pandemic.


The team consists of 13 male and female volunteers, led by pediatric cardiac surgeons. Adel Hussein, accompanied by two pediatric cardiologists, an anesthesiologist, an intensive care physician, a physician assistant, a perfusion specialist, a technical operation specialist, four intensive care nurses and a nursing expert.


The coordinator of the medical delegations at the Palestine Children´s Relief Society, Suhail Fleifel, said that the team is scheduled to examine children with congenital heart defects on the first day of their volunteer mission with the Society in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, after which They will begin performing two surgeries daily until the end of this week.


Fleifel added that all children who need heart surgeries are transferred outside the Gaza Strip, and the medical delegations affiliated with the Society are working to perform these dangerous surgeries in hospitals in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank for free, which in turn relieves a lot on the Ministry of Health and the families of sick children as well.


It is noteworthy that during the last ten years, the Palestine Children´s Relief Society has worked to attract more than 700 voluntary medical missions consisting of thousands of volunteers from all over the world who gave their time and expertise in order to treat thousands of children for free .
