The Arab Parliamentary Union condemns Israel´s settlement practices in East Jerusalem

The President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, Speaker of the Parliament, Eng. Atef Tarawneh, condemned the announcement by the Israeli occupation authorities of its intention to build 3,500 housing units east of the city of Jerusalem.

Al-Tarawneh said in a statement issued by the Arab Parliamentary Union, which the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) received a copy of, yesterday, Friday, "The Israeli declaration is incompatible with international law and international legal instruments."

He added that the Israeli announcement was made in order to isolate Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings and cut off the communication between the northern and southern West Bank, which paves the way for undermining the foundations of the peace process based on a two-state solution in full, and subjecting the Palestinians and Arabs to the status quo policy.

Al-Tarawneh affirmed that the continued occupation and illegal practices of the Israeli occupation authorities in building settlements on the occupied Palestinian territories threaten international peace and security and eliminate any hope for peace and opens the door to wide open doors for more tension, congestion and the eventual explosion.

He appealed to national Arab parliaments and regional and international parliamentary unions to make all effective efforts to influence their governments and political leaders to work immediately to take binding and deterrent international measures and decisions to curb the Israeli occupation authorities, and obligate them to implement international legitimacy decisions related to occupied Palestine, and not to be satisfied with condemnation and condemnation, which did not It moves a finger for decades.

Al-Tarawneh stressed that the Arab region will not witness calm, peace and stability until the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the borders of June 4, 1967, and the return of refugees to their homes in accordance with Resolution 194.
