The head of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mohamed, strongly condemned on Wednesday the air raid on a detention center in Libya near Tripoli that killed 40 of them and demanded accountability for those "terrible crimes."
"We strongly condemn the air strike in Libya that hit a detention center and killed 40 innocent civilians, all of whom are migrants," the AU Commission said in a statement.
He called on the AU Commission in the statement to "an independent investigation to ensure accountability of those responsible for this terrible crime against innocent civilians."
He reiterated his "call for an immediate cease-fire and for the parties to the conflict to ensure the protection and safety of civilians, especially those trapped in detention centers."
The spokesman for ambulance crews Osama Ali told AFP from the raid that 70 migrants were also injured in the strike in the "preliminary toll."
He stressed that the number "a candidate to rise," noting that 120 migrants were inside the amber who was wounded directly in the raid.
Following the raid, the internationally recognized government of national reconciliation issued a statement condemning "the most heinous crime in which the war criminal of the war criminal Khalifa Khafater was targeted in the Tajwara refugee center, which killed and wounded dozens."
For nearly three months, Hafer has been waging an attack to seize control of the capital, Tripoli, the seat of the national reconciliation government that opposes him.
The raid was not carried out by anyone, but media close to Haftar on Saturday evening said Tripoli and Tajoura were targeted by "a series of air strikes."
The Hafar forces often target the Tajoura district, which houses military centers belonging to groups loyal to the al-Wefaq government, with air strikes.
