Sudanese protest in the White House condemning the killing of five students

Hundreds of Sudanese marched in the streets of Al-Abyad on Wednesday, condemning the killing of six demonstrators, including five students during Monday´s march, while a Sudanese court decided to start the trial of former President Omar al-Bashir on August 17.

On Monday, six people, including five high school students, were killed and more than 60 others wounded in a demonstration in protest at the growing bread and fuel shortages in the city, the protest movement and residents said.

Protesters marched in a square near the army headquarters in the center of the city after walking through different parts of the city.

Protests against former President Omar al-Bashir erupted mainly on December 19 because of a three-fold rise in bread prices before it quickly turned into a mass protest movement against Bashir across the country.

Bashir´s trial will begin on Aug. 17 on charges of corruption.

His lawyer, Hisham al-Jaali, said: "The trials of al-Bashir´s courts were on Wednesday, but the authorities could not bring him to trial for security reasons, so the judge informed us that the trial will begin on August 17.
