South Korean President Mon Hae-sung will visit China this week for talks with Chinese political leaders as part of efforts to discuss bilateral cooperation for peace on the Korean peninsula, the South Korean parliament said Sunday. Nuclear talks between North Korea and the United States, South Korea´s Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday.
Parliament will leave Monday for China for a three-day visit with parliamentarians from the ruling Democratic Party and the Baron party, the parliament said.
During the visit, Moon will meet with Chairman of the Standing Committee of China´s National People´s Congress Li Chanzhu, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi.
"We will focus diplomatic efforts at the parliamentary level to resume stalled North Korea-US talks and to promote bilateral cooperation to achieve full nuclear disarmament and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula," the parliament said.
Moon also plans to meet with experts on Korean affairs in China and give a lecture at Peking University.
Moon flew to the United States last February, heading a delegation of parliamentary leaders before the second summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump.
