Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump discussed on Monday the Libyan crisis and the Ethiopian Renaissance file.
Presidential spokesman Bassam Radhi said in a statement that Sisi held a phone conversation with Trump today, during which they discussed the latest developments in the Libyan issue.
Al-Sisi reviewed Egypt´s steadfast strategic stance towards the Libyan issue, aimed at restoring the balance of the country´s pillars, preserving its national institutions, and preventing further deterioration of the security situation by undermining illegal foreign interference in the Libyan issue.
He explained that these interventions only added to the issue, complicating and escalating until the repercussions of the crisis affected the security and regional stability as a whole.
For his part, Trump expressed his understanding of the concerns related to the negative repercussions of the Libyan crisis on the region, and praised Egypt´s relentless efforts towards the Libyan issue.
And he considered that these efforts would enhance the course of the political process in Libya.
And the two leaders agreed to establish a cease-fire in Libya, and not to escalate in preparation for the start of activating dialogue and political solutions.
Sisi and Trump also exchanged views on developments in the current position of the Renaissance Dam file.
The two leaders agreed on "the importance of continuing negotiations, and the imperative of reaching a comprehensive agreement that secures the interests of the three development and water states."
The contact also discussed some topics related to strategic bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States of America.
