Record number of recovery cases recorded in Italy

Italy announced on Friday the recovery of 2563 infected with Covid-19 within one day, which is a record since the beginning of the epidemic that killed about 23 thousand people in this country.

Civil Defense Commander Angelo Borelli said that "the highest number of cases of recovery since the beginning of the crisis" was recorded, but that came in parallel with the count of 575 deaths within 24 hours.

On Friday, the number of injured reached nearly 107,000, an increase of 355. Injuries decreased in several regions, including Turin, Rome and Naples.

Italy set another record, with health services conducting more than 65,000 exams within a day. Five percent of the examined were found to be infected, which is "an indication of the effectiveness of the measures taken in relation to the quarantine to contain the infection," Borelli said.

"On April 3, there were 4,068 patients in intensive care, today the number is just over 2,800," the official added during a press conference.

The Civil Defense Commander indicated that press conferences held on a daily basis since the beginning of the crisis, will be held in the future on Monday and Thursday only.

The Higher Institute of Health revealed on Friday that 10 percent of the injured in Italy belong to the medical staff, and that two thirds of them are women.

The Medical Association said in a statement on Thursday that the epidemic had killed 125 doctors in the country.
